Welcome to the MedRiSSE Wiki

MedRiSSE image web-ENI.jpg

This Wiki is a knowledge commons for the promotion of co-production and social innovation in the provision of public social services in collaboration with the Social & Solidarity Economy entities in the Mediterranean Basin. It has been developed within the implementation of the European Transnational Cooperation project MedRiSSE. MedRiSSE is a capitalization project funded by the European Union under the European Neighbourhood Instrument for cross-border cooperation within the framework of the Mediterranean Basin Programme 2014-2020 (ENI CBC Med 2014-2020).

It is managed collectively by the Partners of the project MedRiSSE as an innovative open-source tool to maximize the impact, attract potential users, help gain understanding, activate involvement and spread the knowledge generated by 5 Mediterranean cooperation projects. This Wiki is part of the Digital Platform for the Mediterranean Co-production Laboratory.

The Mediterranean Co-production Lab endeavour

Mediterranean Co-production Lab

The MedRiSSE_Co-production_Lab will act as a meeting place to share ideas and best practices to encourage public sector innovation through collaboration with Social and Solidarity Economy (SSE); and to promote cooperation to translate this knowledge into pilot interventions and projects in the Mediterranean countries.

Its vision is to help bring about, through the coproduction of innovative public policies, the political, socioeconomic, and cultural shifts that the countries of the Mediterranean basin require in order to achieve more sustainable, prosperous, equitable, and democratic communities.

Therefore, the Lab’s online presence should serve as a space for meeting, exchanging, researching and co-creating:

  • Meeting point between relevant actors of the territories that adhere, public administrations, academic research field and entities of the social and solidarity economy sector so that they can build a network that enables cooperation and collaboration.
  • Exchange of best practices, opinions and related knowledge to resolve queries; improve individual and common initiatives; and serve as a training space for agents interested in social innovation, public policies and the SSE.
  • Research on SSE, social innovation, decent work and related subjects to serve as a support and documented basis for advocacy and awareness-raising in Mediterranean societies.
  • Co-creating demonstrative actions that showcase public sector led innovations that contribute effectively to the necessary social transformation of Mediterranean countries based on the coproduction of social policies with the involvement of citizens or service users and SSE in the design as well as the delivery of public services.

Widened Community of Practice (WCoP)

Learning networks are constructed on dialogue. Providing an international Community of Practice serves as a space to:

  • Connect practitioners
  • Share and disseminate information and experiences
  • Harvest learnings and new knowledge
  • Foster peer-to-peer support
  • Explore possible synergies

Facilitation of the Widened Community of Practice conssits of the organisation, moderation and facilitation of group discussions among the partners, users and the different participants in the CoP on a regular basis e.g. monthly or bimonthly. It includes the dynamization of their participation in order to promote community engagement throughout the project.
Red de Transición, the partner who is setting up and facilitating the initial stages of the WCoP, will ensure that the WCoP remains an open working space where members work together and keep up with the latest news and discussions through monthly member calls, sustaining MedRiSSE’s online platform connecting SSE practitioners and public sector innovators, launching action groups focused on specific projects/work that will be convened for specific time periods. All partners will contribute to dynamising the discussion and facilitating the collaboration.

Replication of Good Practices

The overall objective of MedRiSSE is to develop a Mediterranean scalability pathway for social innovations that enable the co-production of public social services with local Social and Solidarity Economy (SSE) agents that have emerged from interactions between the government and the SSE involved in several EU funded projects. The initiative aims to demonstrate that co-production of public social services with SSE actors can provide low-cost, highly effective, and scalable solutions to fight poverty and promote equality, social inclusion, and environmental sustainability. These innovations, in fact, represent successful and efficient practices for the achievement of the SDGs in general, and for the protection of the most vulnerable groups in the post Covid-19 economies in the Mediterranean Sea Basin (MSB). However, the full potential of the SSE for the recovery stage will depend on governments’ willingness to co-design and co-implement public policies and recovery measures within a multi-stakeholder approach, as well as civil society’s capacity to act and mobilize resources. In this respect, the capitalization and dissemination of good practices have the potential to inform and inspire similar experiences and solutions through a multiplicative global effect on local communities. Against this backdrop, MedRiSSE project developed a Replication Toolkit on the learnings and capitalization of 5 EU funded projects, namely MedTOWN, MoreThanAJob, MedUP!, IESS! and RUWOMED.

Replicability Toolkit

The aim of the Replicability Toolkit is to build on the learnings and capitalization of 5 EU funded projects, namely MedTOWN, MoreThanAJob, MedUP!, IESS! and RUWOMED. In particular, for each project, good practices of SSE, social innovation and co-production approach were identified and thoroughly analysed and assessed. Hence, readers such as policymakers, public servants, and SSE practitioners can hereby find preliminary guidance and resources to consider replicating such initiatives in other contexts and territories. Core features of each good practice were identified and analytically explained and structured in the form of Roadmaps, which intend to be a practical and easy-to-read guide for readers.

Replicability Toolkit

Replicability Roadmaps

The aim of the Roadmaps is to provide guidance and resources for policymakers, public servants, and SSE practitioners in the Mediterranean wishing to replicate similar social innovation and co-production models and initiatives in other contexts and territories.

A total of 5 Roadmaps, one for each good practice identified from MedTOWN, MoreThanAJob, MedUP!, IESS! and RUWOMED projects, were elaborated under the MedRiSSE project by MedRiSSE partner ARCO – Action Research for CO-development.

Policy Advocacy

One of the goals of the MedRiSSE projects lays on getting a wider understanding of the social innovation realities in each one of the five countries of the project. To go deeper in this research, a cross-country study has been developed to analyse the contexts, issues and priorities to aplly the policy purposes. Partners of the project will work together to develop thematic policy briefs that will be then disseminated via workshops and public debate in each one of the countries. These policy briefs will contain recommentations for policy makers to promote social innovation in their territories thanks to the analysis of the cooperation work in the programme area.
